At The Michigan Center for Regenerative Medicine, we’re constantly looking at new technologies and treatment options to help improve overall outcomes for our patients. Being members of the Interventional Orthobiologics Foundation gives us insight into the newest and best treatments in Regenerative Medicine. Shockwave and EMTT have both been showing excellent outcomes in treating musculoskeletal conditions and will be added to the Michigan Center for Regenerative Medicine’s treatment options as another alternative or supplement for our patients.
Shockwave Treatment Explained
Shockwave treatment has been around for several years but has only recently been used with regenerative medicine treatments. Shockwave therapy was first used to help eradicate kidney stones. Researchers began to notice that new tissue was forming in areas exposed to the shockwave treatment, leading them to look into other applications for this type of treatment.
Shockwave therapy works similarly to other regenerative medicine procedures, using focused energy pulses directed into injured tissues to promote healing. Like PRP, stem cells or any injectable that stimulates tissue growth shockwave uses energy to mimic the body’s tissue healing process. In our use of shockwave, we’ve also seen promising results using this treatment to “wake up” mesenchymal stem cells around joints where patients may be experiencing pain or arthritis. This process can help new tissue form in these areas, which can help reduce pain and allow patients to live more active lives.
Who Benefits from Shockwave Treatment?
It is the opinion of our Board-Certified doctors that anyone can benefit from shockwave therapy. We’re currently implementing shockwave technology into regenerative medicine procedures because we’ve seen how it can improve delivery and outcomes. We like to look at regenerative treatment as the biological approach and shockwave treatment as a way to use the body’s natural response to heal.
DataBiologics Helps Us Track Outcomes
As with any technology we use, we enter our patient data into DataBiologics, a robust patient database that allows us to track outcomes. With this data-based tool, we can track our patients and compare those outcomes to other regenerative medicine providers nationwide. This unique data-driven approach to regenerative medicine should help improve outcomes throughout our industry and boost collaboration between highly respected regenerative medicine clinics across the US.
How is EMTT Different from Shockwave Treatment
Another treatment we’ve started to use is called EMTT (Extracorporeal Magnetotransduction Therapy). This type of treatment uses magnetic energy to help open channels in cell membranes to have a faster metabolism. Because of this, we’ve started to use EMTT alongside other regenerative medicine procedures, including shockwave. EMTT helps to ready the cells to receive different regenerative medicine treatments.
