Benefits of EMG Testing from MCRM

At Michigan Center for Regenerative Medicine, one of our primary goals for all patients is to get to the root cause of whatever may be causing them pain. This may seem obvious, but unfortunately, it’s not necessarily common in the medical world. Many medical providers rely on medications or other medical treatment options to mask the symptoms and not get to the root cause of your pain. We think this is a backward approach to practicing medicine, which is why we offer EMG testing to all our patients.

What is EMG Testing?

EMG Testing is the common term for an Electrodiagnostic Study. An electrodiagnostic study consists of 2 tests, a Nerve Conduction Study (NCS) and an Electromyography Study (EMG).  The NCS tests how well your nerves conduct signals, and the EMG tests how well your muscles receive these signals. Between these 2 tests, we are able to determine if you have a nerve injury, how severe is the injury, its location, and prognosis.

Dr. John Santa is Certified in EMG Testing by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine

Not only is our very own Dr. John Santa Ana Board Certified in PM&R, but he’s also certified by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. Dr. Santa Ana is one of the few physicians in the country who has undergone extensive training in EMG testing.

While PM&R doctors and neurologists are trained in EMG testing, many of these medical professionals have only performed a small number of procedures. Dr. Santa Ana had to complete thousands of EMG tests in a small amount of time to receive his certification showcasing his vast experience in this area. As one of the few certified physicians offering EMG testing in the Rochester, MI, area, we’re confident in the high level of care Dr. Santa Ana provides to each of his patients.

Feel free to browse Dr. Santa Ana’s profile with the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine to understand better the requirements of being certified by this highly regarded organization.
