Stem Cell Therapy for Knees in Rochester Hills MI

Stem cell therapy for knees, the subject of many promising studies in recent years, is finally getting the attention it deserves. Arthritis can develop when the cartilage that lines the joints begins to deteriorate, causing pain and limited function. Osteoarthritis is common, a major cause of disability in this country.

There are 600,000 knee replacements done annually in the U.S., and that number is expected to climb to three million by 2030. The traditional method to repair knees? Surgery and medication. We know of a better way: It’s called stem cell therapy for knees and it can reduce pain and repair cartilage. Not only do patients improve their quality of life, they can avoid surgery, as well as the downtime and addictive medication that comes with it.

Adult stem cells maintain and heal tissues through the replenishment of damaged and dying cells. Stem cells don’t work as well as they should because blood supply is limited in the knee.  That’s where our stem cell injections come in, as they initiate the self-recovery process. Treatable Conditions

Stem cell therapy for knees is great for knees and many other painful and chronic conditions, such as:

  • Osteoarthritis of All Joints
  • Rotator Cuff Injuries
  • Labral Tears: Hip or Shoulder
  • Spinal Facet Joint Syndromes
  • Tendonitis
  • Sacroiliac (SI) Joint Disorders
  • Bursitis
  • Spinal Disc Herniations
  • “Whip-lash” neck pain
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Avascular Necrosis
  • Non-Union Fractures

As a leader within the regenerative medicine community, it’s our job to treat people who suffer from pain on a daily basis – in non-invasive ways for long-term success. We are tired of seeing the effects of so-called Band-Aid fixes to pain, particularly when it comes to knees. We encourage our patients to seek relief outside traditional treatments like surgery and pain medicine to more accurately address their orthopedic and musculo-skeletal conditions.

If you have been told over and over again that these conditions can only be successfully treated with surgery, cortisone shots and medication (which can be very addictive), it’s time to consider another solution: stem cell therapy for knees in Rochester Hills MI.

Our Process

Here at the Michigan Center for Regenerative Medicine, our stem cell therapy procedures are done under either x-ray or ultrasound to ensure precision and location of stem cell delivery. The whole thing should take about two hours from the time you visit us until you leave.

Most procedures are performed using only local anesthetic such as lidocaine; however, in some cases, we will use IV sedation if necessary.

Dr. Thomas S. Nabity, Jr. will sit down with you to discuss the process and answer all your questions in a comfortable environment. Board-certified in physical medicine, rehab and pain medicine, Dr. Nabity leads our team in this cutting-edge procedure.

The Procedure

Stem cells are the best healing cells we have in our bodies, and they’re normally found in two main places in our blood stream: bone marrow and fat. The concept is simple: we find the cells, concentrate them in a syringe, and inject them in the exact area of pain.

This painless procedure involves harvesting cells and isolating them in a lab with a centrifuge to ensure a very high concentration of cells. We put those stem cells in a syringe and re-introduce them into the targeted tissue.

We can do this by harvesting cells from either fat or bone marrow. We take many factors into consideration when selecting which to use. We typically utilize bone marrow stores because:

  • They work best for the types of conditions we treat.
  • The FDA imposes restrictions on the techniques used for isolating fat cells; because we practice within full compliance of the FDA, we only use bone marrow aspiration procedures.
