Stem Cell Therapy Near Northview MI
You have probably heard in the media of stem cells and the science around them. Stem cell therapy is an exciting and revolutionary medical treatment. But what is stem cell therapy? How can it help? Most importantly, how can it help you? Here at the Michigan Center for Regenerative Medicine, we have a complete and concise breakdown of everything you need to know about stem cell therapy.
What Are Stem Cells
Stem cells are the body’s natural building blocks and the basis for every specialized cell in your body. They are proto-cells that have the potential to become whatever your body needs for regeneration, growth, or replacement. No other cell in the body can divide into a cell of a different type, which allows for the specialized targeting of stem cells.

How It All Works
Stem cell therapy is a type of regenerative medicine that utilizes cells and the natural healing ability of the human body. First, adult stem cells are harvested. Then, they are grown and multiplied before being cultivated by a doctor for specific purposes and prepared for injection. The cells are then injected into the affected tissue and multiply to start regrowth. The new cells in the ailing tissue then work to rebuild the framework of the body’s natural healing and restore function or reduce pain via new growth.
According to this Mayo Clinic article, “It is the next chapter in organ transplantation and uses cells instead of donor organs, which are limited in supply.” While that is an ambitious statement and still has much research to go before entire organs can be replaced, there is a truth to the fact that stem cell therapy is a medical practice that has tremendous potential.
What Conditions Can Be Treated With Stem Cell Therapies
Stem cell therapy is not a cure-all for every ailment. However, there are numerous conditions, aches, pains, and injuries that stem cell therapy can help treat. Those conditions that can benefit the most from stem cells include:
- Spinal Cord Injuries
- Spinal Degenerative Conditions
- Joint Pain
- Sports Injuries
- Osteoarthritis
- Inflamed Muscle Tissues
Other typical conditions benefitting from stem cell therapies are any that degenerate, destroy, or stem from the disease of tissues.

How Successful Is Stem Cell Therapy?
Regenerative medicine, and by extension stem cell therapy, is a relatively new field of medicine that is still being studied as it uses some of the most advanced technologies and medical practices available today. While stem cell therapy’s success depends upon the recipient and the nature of the injury, it is seen as a safe and effective method that has been well-documented and poses little risk. Compared to more invasive forms of pain relief and tissue repair, stem cells are proven to be more effective and save many individuals the pain and danger of surgery.
