Tricare Now Covering PRP Treatment for Active Duty Military for Knee Osteoarthritis
As you may or may not know, our very own Dr. John Santa Ana is a veteran who has worked with military personnel for decades. One of his passions is helping our armed forces members deal with chronic health issues, many of which have arisen due to their time in the military. We recently were extremely excited to learn that Tricare is now covering PRP treatment for active duty military for those dealing with knee osteoarthritis.
What is Tricare?
Tricare combines the healthcare resources of the military with a network of civilian health care providers and institutions. This allows active duty military as well as their family members and retirees to receive high quality healthcare services.
Big Win for Regenerative Medicine as a Whole
This announcement is a huge win for the entire field of regenerative medicine. It means that the military is beginning to see the many benefits of regenerative medicine, which is why they’re beginning to offer it to our nation’s heroes.
PRP Treatment for Knee Osteoarthritis
Because of the high number of military veterans with knee osteoarthritis, Tricare currently only covers PRP treatment for this particular condition. It will be interesting to see if the military begins to cover additional regenerative medicine treatments as they start to see the positive outcomes which are likely to come with those dealing with knee issues.
Requirements for Tricare Coverage for Knee Osteoarthritis
To be covered by Tricare, PRP treatment can only be performed on active duty military personnel who are dealing with knee osteoarthritis. Feel free to reach out to the team at Michigan Center for Regenerative Medicine to schedule an appointment with one of our Board Certified physicians to examine whether you’re exhibiting signs of knee osteoarthritis.
