The Midwest Training Hub for Advanced Orthobiologic Techniques

The Michigan Center for Regenerative Medicine has reached a significant milestone in establishing itself as a leader in regenerative medicine. Dr. Thomas Nabity and Dr. John Santa Ana were recently selected by the Interventional Orthobiologics Foundation to serve as instructors and host advanced training courses at their Rochester Hills, MI facility, making it the premier teaching site for the Midwest region.

Earning Recognition from the Premier Orthobiologics Association

The Interventional Orthobiologics Foundation, recognized as one of the premier orthobiologics associations worldwide, is highly selective about who it invites to teach. The organization provides certification training for physicians looking to provide advanced orthobiologic injections, ensuring that only the most skilled and knowledgeable practitioners offer these cutting-edge treatments.

“Being asked to serve as instructors is a tremendous honor,” explained Dr. Santa Ana. “The IOF carefully selects physicians based on their clinical experience and patient outcomes. We’re grateful for this opportunity to contribute to advancing the field.”

Previously, training sites were only available on the West and East coasts. The Michigan Center for Regenerative Medicine now fills a critical gap, providing accessible, high-quality training for physicians throughout the Midwest region.

Rigorous Training Requirements for Advanced Orthobiologic Certification

The training pathway through the Interventional Orthobiologics Foundation is rigorous and structured. Doctors must already have strong orthopedic backgrounds typically as sports medicine physicians, orthopedic surgeons, or physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists. Doctors progress through a structured curriculum beginning with basics, advancing to intermediate techniques, and finally mastering advanced procedures.

During the recent September 27-28 weekend course, Dr. Nabity taught intermediate spine orthobiologic techniques and bone marrow aspirate and adipose harvesting, while Dr. Santa Ana led training in advanced hip and knee orthobiologic techniques and also instructed on bone marrow aspirate and adipose harvesting.

First Midwest Training Course Draws International Attendance

For their first time hosting, the event was remarkably successful. Many physicians attended, traveling from across the country and internationally, including North Carolina, Alaska, Colorado, and France.

“Everyone was impressed with our facility and how we’ve built this comprehensive practice focused solely on regenerative medicine,” Dr. Santa Ana noted. The course went beyond technical instruction, incorporating business strategies and patient communication techniques to help physicians integrate these services into their practices.

The Michigan Center for Regenerative Medicine’s commitment to scientific rigor is demonstrated through its participation in DataBiologics, a registry where physicians contribute patient outcome data. This transparency allows the medical community to verify treatment effectiveness and ensures accountability.

How IOF Certification Elevates Standards in Regenerative Medicine

The IOF certification program serves a vital purpose in legitimizing regenerative medicine. The organization elevates standards across the field by ensuring that only highly trained physicians perform these advanced procedures safely and according to established scientific protocols.

This structured approach helps establish regenerative medicine as a credible alternative to surgery and pain medication for patients suffering from orthopedic conditions.
