Prolotherapy Near East Grand Rapids, MI – What it is and How it Could be Beneficial to You
There are many ways in which prolotherapy may be administered. Still, the most common method is injecting some solution into a joint or muscle where the pain is experienced, or the body is slow to heal. The most common types of solutions are sugar or saline solutions.
The body will then immediately consider the injected solution to be an irritant, which in this case, has the potential to cause inflammation. The body will respond to this irritant, starting or accelerating natural healing processes. Damaged tissue such as muscle fibers, nerves, and blood vessels then benefit from the body’s natural and accelerated healing, hopefully causing the body to heal faster or reducing or even removing current sensations of chronic pain.
Because this treatment has not been studied effectively, it is not currently known why – in many cases – prolotherapy works. Some medical experts think introducing the irritant causes a change in pressure within the affected area that causes cells to burst. The body then ‘calls in’ the normal processes to repair the damaged cells. Other medical experts feel that the simple introduction of the irritant itself is enough to bring immune cells and inflammation agents to the area of introduction.

Prolotherapy Near East Grand Rapids, MI, Has Been Effective for Many People
On countless occasions where prolotherapy has been used, people have reported tremendous success in alleviating swelling and joint pain, particularly around the knee. In one study in which children who suffered from inflamed knee tendons were given prolotherapy one year after treatment, as many as 84 percent said that they were now free from pain, compared to 46 percent from a second study group who were given pain relief.
In other examples, prolotherapy has proven successful for osteoarthritis in the knee and low back pain. As well as a reduction or even eradication of pain, people also reported increased levels of mobility.
Prolotherapy is not effective for everyone, but it is an entirely safe and harmless treatment. The only issues regarding prolotherapy are the pain from the injection (just like any injection) and the slight chance of infection at the injection site, which can usually be eradicated with antibiotics.
