Ligament Injuries: Frequent Causes of Knee Pain and Decreased Mobility

Several conditions and injuries can leave you with knee pain and decreased mobility. Our team at The Michigan Center for Regenerative Medicine has seen great results for patients living with knee pain by using modern regenerative medicine treatments. Regenerative medicine treatments address the root cause of knee pain caused by various conditions and injuries, including ligament injuries.

Ligament Injuries: The knee is stabilized by multiple ligaments, including the ACL, MCL, and LCL. These ligaments connect bones and support the knee, which is crucial for providing the stability you need to walk, play sports, and go about your daily life. When one or several of these ligaments are injured, you can experience intense pain and lose your mobility. The ACL is the most commonly injured ligament in the knee and is damaged by a sudden twisting of the knee or a sudden change in direction or stop. The MCL protects the knee from inward forces and can be damaged when a blow to the knee forces the knee inwards. This is most commonly seen in patients who play contact sports like football, but it can happen to anyone who experiences an injury to the knee that forces the leg back. The LCL is less commonly injured than the ACL and MCL but can be injured when the knee is bent outward forcefully.

Regardless of what type of ligament is injured, patients often report symptoms including:

  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Loss of mobility
  • Decreased stability

Ligament injuries can be treated with regenerative medicine treatments like stem cell therapy or PRP to address the root cause of your knee pain while helping the body to heal damaged ligament tissues.

Regenerative Medicine for Ligament Injuries in Midtown Detroit

Stem cell therapy for ligament injuries is a great option for patients looking to treat knee pain without invasive surgery or powerful medications. At the Michigan Center for Regenerative Medicine, we follow all FDA regulations for stem cell treatments, which is why we chose to painlessly harvest stem cells from a patient’s own bone marrow. Bone marrow contains large amounts of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), which are powerful tools for repairing damaged ligament tissues like those found in the ACL, MCL, and LCL. Stem cell therapy at the Michigan Center for Regenerative Medicine is safe, effective, and affordable for treating knee pain caused by ligament injuries of the knee.
