Sports Injury Treatment in Michigan Non-Surgical Care From Board-Certified Doctors
Strains, sprains, tendon problems, and muscle pain can keep you out of the game. Our physicians find the source first, then explain non-surgical options such as PRP and bone marrow (stem cell) treatment, so you can plan a safe return to the activities you love.

What sports injuries can regenerative medicine help, and how does it work?
Sports injuries such as tendon problems, ligament sprains, muscle strains, and partial tears can be slow to heal. After an exam and imaging review, our physicians may recommend non-surgical options such as PRP, bone marrow (BMAC) treatment, or prolotherapy, paired with a gradual return-to-play plan.
Sports Injury Treatment Without Surgery
Sports injuries and muscle pain can linger long after the game or workout that caused them. A strained muscle, a sprained ligament, or an irritated tendon may keep you off the court, the course, or the trail, and some injuries keep flaring up every time you try to return.
Board-certified physicians at our Rochester Hills and Grand Rapids offices evaluate sports injuries in weekend athletes, competitive players, and active adults of every age. The goal is a safe return to the activities you enjoy. Read how athletes can bounce back from sports injuries.
How Sports Injury Treatment Works

Your physician asks how the injury happened, examines strength and motion, and reviews X-rays or MRI. Diagnostic ultrasound can show muscles, tendons, and ligaments in real time.
- PRP: concentrated platelets from your own blood, used for tendon and ligament injuries and some muscle strains.
- Bone marrow (BMAC) treatment: your own bone marrow cells, concentrated and placed in the same visit, for selected tendon tears and joint injuries.
- Prolotherapy: a dextrose solution that prompts a healing response in loose or weakened ligaments.
Treatments are placed with ultrasound or fluoroscopic (x-ray) guidance. Most plans pair treatment with a gradual return-to-activity and strengthening program.
Who May Be a Good Candidate?
You may be a good candidate if a sprain, strain, tendon problem, or partial tear has not healed with rest, physical therapy, or bracing, or if pain returns every time you get back to your sport. Some injuries, such as a complete tendon rupture, may need a surgical opinion, and your physician will tell you if that is the case.

FAQ
Sports Injury Questions
Answers to common questions from our sports injury patients. Your physician can address your specific situation during a consultation. Your physician can address your specific situation during a consultation.
What sports injuries do you treat?
Our physicians evaluate muscle strains, ligament sprains, tendinitis and tendon tears, and joint injuries of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, foot, and ankle.
Do I need imaging before my visit?
Not always. Your physician examines the injured area and may use diagnostic ultrasound in the office. Bring any X-ray or MRI reports you already have.
Can PRP help a sports injury?
PRP may help some tendon and ligament injuries and some muscle strains, especially alongside a strengthening program. Results vary.
Will I need surgery?
Many sports injuries are treated without surgery. A complete tendon rupture or an unstable joint may need a surgical opinion, and your physician will be honest about which applies.
How soon can I return to my sport?
It depends on the injury and treatment. Most plans include a gradual return-to-activity program, and your physician will set a timeline with you.
Do you only treat competitive athletes?
No. We see weekend athletes, golfers, pickleball and tennis players, runners, and active adults of every age.
Is it covered by insurance?
Regenerative treatments are usually self-pay. Some conventional injections can be billed to insurance. See insurance and payment options.
