Can stem cell therapy help with neuropathy?
Stem cell therapy may be discussed for some neuropathy patients when other care has not brought enough relief, but research is still early and it is not FDA approved for neuropathy. Our physicians start with an accurate diagnosis, including EMG testing when needed, and explain all options, such as nerve stimulation and PRP.
Peripheral neuropathy can cause tingling, burning pain, numbness, weakness, and balance problems. Many patients find that pain medication alone does not bring enough relief. What Is Peripheral Neuropathy?
Peripheral neuropathy is damage to or dysfunction of the nerves outside the brain and spinal cord. Common symptoms include:
- Tingling in the hands or feet
- Burning pain
- Numbness
- Muscle weakness
- Sensitivity to touch
- Balance problems
Common causes include diabetes, chemotherapy, autoimmune conditions, nerve injuries, vitamin deficiencies, alcohol use, and circulation problems. Nerves have a limited ability to repair themselves, so symptoms can persist or worsen if the cause is not managed.

Our physicians can perform EMG and nerve conduction testing to measure how your nerves and muscles are working. The results help separate neuropathy from other causes of similar symptoms, such as a pinched nerve in the spine, and guide treatment. Managing the underlying cause, such as blood sugar control with your primary care doctor, remains essential.

Nerve Pain Stimulation
Peripheral nerve stimulation uses a small device to change pain signals and may help some patients with painful neuropathy.
PRP

Stem Cell Therapy
Stem cell therapy uses your own cells, most often from bone marrow and in some cases from adipose (fat) tissue, prepared within FDA rules. Research into stem cells for neuropathy, including diabetic neuropathy, is still early, and stem cell therapy is not FDA approved for neuropathy.
