What causes foot and ankle pain, and how can regenerative medicine help?
Common causes include plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, and ankle sprains that never fully healed and left the ankle unstable. Our physicians examine your foot and ankle, review imaging, and may recommend PRP, bone marrow (stem cell) treatment, or prolotherapy placed with ultrasound guidance. Results vary.
Foot & Ankle Pain Treatment
Your feet and ankles carry you through every step of the day. When heel pain, Achilles pain, or an unstable ankle sets in, walking, running, standing at work, and even getting out of bed can hurt.
Board-certified physicians at our Rochester Hills and Grand Rapids offices evaluate foot and ankle pain and explain the non-surgical options that may help, along with the honest limits of each.
How Treatment Works

Your physician examines how you stand and walk, checks ankle stability, and reviews X-rays or MRI. Diagnostic ultrasound can show the plantar fascia, Achilles tendon, and ankle ligaments in real time.
- PRP: concentrated platelets from your own blood, often used for plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendinopathy.
- Bone marrow (BMAC) treatment: your own bone marrow cells for selected tendon and joint problems.
- Prolotherapy: a dextrose solution that prompts a healing response in loose or weakened ankle ligaments.
Who May Be a Good Candidate?
You may be a good candidate if heel, Achilles, or ankle pain has lasted for months and rest, stretching, supportive shoes, orthotics, physical therapy, or medication have not given lasting relief. A complete tendon rupture or a fracture needs different care, and your physician will tell you if that is the case. Read about relieving plantar fasciitis with regenerative medicine.
